Week 37- “MY TRAILOR!” -Hot Rod

How we doing out there? 

This week ran us into the ground. We had a ton of finding as usual this week but that’s always fun to talk to people on the streets and at their doorsteps about the restored Gospel. 

We had ward volleyball on Friday night that was way fun. Helped a less active family move for 6 hours on Saturday and then went and did 2 hours. We were dead at the end of Saturday.

Sunday was great and I got to meet the ward members, after we had lunch at one of my favorite family’s house. Fam Staack and they loaded us with food and we had an amazing spiritual thought relating to Christ and Easter. They then gave us like 6 people to go by right there on the spot. So we went and did that for two hours and it was hard to come back saying that nobody wanted to hear the message but the family was so happy we went by on the people. Just to give you an example. The dad of this family 3 weeks ago got on a train with a Book of Mormon and said a prayer that he’d be able to share it with someone and he straight up had a guy love the Book and took it. Such a man of faith and he loves his family.

Monday had a split in Bamberg, so weird to be back in that apartment again but had such a fun split with Elder Garner. We did a ton of contacting but it was so much fun to be back on the streets of Bamberg. Bamberg and Coburg are some of the prettiest places I have ever seen Holy cow!

We have some people to teach but nobody is keeping commitments or staying in very good contact. Frustrating but ya know, we all got our free agency.

Something that has been on my mind this week is what have I built my own testimony on? I’ve tried this week to cut all of my strings of where my testimony is relying on what anyone else believes or says and to just truly have my own firm knowledge of the gospel through what I personally know and have experienced. Regardless of what others think or believe. If one of the apostles or my stake president fell away from the church tomorrow would it shake my testimony or would I stand firm? Had some soul searching this week haha

Some interesting things I heard this week were “yeah I’ve heard of Joseph Smith, I’m pretty sure he was on some magic mushrooms or something so I can’t believe that story.” Haha this one was hilarious because I wanted to say “well that is a possibility for sure but you could pray and ask God for yourself and get an answer” but I was like ehh this guy is probably on something himself. Also heard “honestly I could pray about the Book of Mormon tonight, but even if I did I’m not sure that I’d be ready for the answer because that means I’d have to change my life.” This one made me sad but I could tell the Spirit was working on her because she must’ve had the feeling that she would need to change in order to live the Gospel.

Watch the new Easter video the church made it’s so good! The guy who made it is actually a member in our mission. The girl at the first is from the Hanau ward (where I was trained) and then the family at the end was baptized in the Frankfurt ward just before Christmas by my man Scotty Hughes. Such a good video. Christ is always there for us.

Also got some insight from a Persian Translator that is translating for conference. There are going to be some big announcements and awesome talks :) way stoked for conference. Hope you guys enjoy it!

Anyways I’m about to go to the World Wide head quarters of Adidas and Puma right now so I’ve got to wrap this up! You guys are awesome and I appreciate all the support I get throughout the week!

Week 36 -“Thot walk, aye aye, yah thot walk” -can’t remember the rapper

First off shout out to all the gang that is around the world just doing absolute work in bringing souls unto Christ. I get emails like “14 investigators to church and 2 baptisms this week.” And another like “first day on my mission I haven’t found anyone.” And I’m just like wait what is happening in Germany I must be doing something wrong nah for real it’s all good though. The Lord is hastening his work!

Trevin Rothwell himself turns 14 this week. If any of you see that kid this week freaking tackle him or something for me. The kid is a stud!

Man it has been an interesting week for sureeeeeee

Saturday we got the transfer calls and I was told that I’d be going down to Coburg and that Elder Felix would be training in Solingen! Man I’m going to miss that kid we had a way good time together and he is going to be a good trainer!

We had to give talks again in church in Solingen so ya know, that was fun and then I said goodbye. Actually going to miss that area and ward. It’s weird how you come to love people and things that you have never known before. I’m grateful for the time I had there and the things I learned.

Now I’m in Coburg and am with Elder Augat from Riverton, Utah but you’d never guess it because he only speaks German..... something morally questionable with speaking to another American not in English. It’s like jumping into an ice bath, at first it’s pretty funny and seems like a cool idea and then after a while you’re just like wow this is really cold and sucks but I’m sure it’s good for me? Haha we are good though he is a way good missionary and was a ZL in this mission for a long time. He goes home at the end of this transfer and it’s only a 4 weeker so I’m going to learn a ton this next month.

Other than that not much new, just getting situated and adjusted. Already had some ya funny experiences with people on the street here and had some good conversations. Looking forward to my time here! It’s a really pretty place and also Bamberg is in our district! I was so shook yesterday at district meeting walking into that Bamberg church. Took my right back to August 2016. It was like ptsd flashbacks hahaha! (Bamberg was my first area when I first went on my first mission)

For p day we are with my booyyyyzzzz Elder Warr and Webster. So good to see those guys again. Some sweet zone leaders if you ask me. We are going to some nazi museum and to where hitler preached to the people in Nürnberg. 🏻‍♂️

Elder Rothwell is beyond pumped to be here and sharing the good word of God with all of his brothers and sisters. I know there are miracles to be had here and that the power of the Book of Mormon and the truthfulness of the Gospel will change lives here.

Week 35 -"Boom Roasted"

What a week here. Just glad this week is over right now

Last week had the awesome opportunity to visit a member from the Wuppertal ward that was in a hospital here in Solingen and he asked me to give him a blessing so that was awesome! 

We had a district finding activity last week so I decided it’d be fun to hit the university in Wuppertal and we got roasted. Were there about an hour and then this one guy I contacted was just like “F*ck you” so naturally I was like oh, so you can speak English? And then we got into it a little bit haha and then not 5 minutes later this lady comes out and is like get out of here, you have no permission to preach on school property so we had ourselves a nice conversation right there in the middle of campus :) haha my district members were shook. I just need to be more patient and loving, pray for me guys!!🏻‍♂️

Sunday was sick! Had ward conference and were able to get some less actives back in the building! WOOO! We were stoked. Also had an awesome member appointment with the Hansen’s an they invited their relatives from the phillapeans over who are less active and were able to have a super spiritual message.

The rest of the week was full of fallen out appointments and a ton of contacting. We were dooring in a small town, and this one guy came down the stairs and he was just on fire. He ripped us a new one and told us how we ruin peoples lives and me and him were just going back and forth. And then my comp is just like sir we simply are trying to help people haha and then he lost it on us again and called the cops and all of that jazz.

Oh ya also contacted a guy yesterday, and he was just like “you should be talking to people with weak souls, I’m a strong soul so I don’t need this” and then another guy who said he only reads pornography. He was at least 60 years old and I was just shook.

I’ve never had so many people just be brutally rude to me in a week and tell us what we are doing is evil. I think I heard the word Scheiße 200 said in my face 100 times this week, but I know that we are being blessed for testifying of Christ. I was reading Alma 17 about the Sons of Mosiah and if they could make it then so can we, those men were beasts! What we go through really isn’t bad at all when you start comparing it to the Book of Mormon or the early saints in the church.

Honestly I love it out here and and grateful for the opportunity to share and testify of the Gospel and Christ. We learn that opposition is in all things! Just means that miracles are about to come!

Week 34- "Bitte schön"

Yoooooo how we doin?

This week was pretty freaking sick! Finally started to slightly warm up out here and the sun shined a few times here and there so it was a nice change.

Mathilde showed up to stake conference! We were able to have another young single adult in the ward bring her, so that was awesome.

Went on a split with my man Elder Call and I took him around Solingen. Did some knocking doors in the rain and got roasted! I’m not always the nicest to people when they are jerks to us at the doorstep but Elder call is always nice to them. Kid doesn’t have a mean bone in his body so I was humbly reminded to love everyone. He’s a stud. We were on a bus home that night and a guy and his girlfriend were like laughing and I heard a “mormons” in their convo so of course I jumped right in the convo and was like yo what is up we are the Mormons and we are proud of it. How do you know us? He made some South Park reference and started laughing but he was actually a way nice guy. Said he would love to come see what Mormon church is actually like some time.

The next day we hopped on a bus and at the back some like 18 year old kid drunk out of his mind was blasting music. Some younger girls were kinda laughing at him and so out of nowhere he pulls out this knife and they all ran to the front of the bus. Gladly nothing happened. Stay in school and keep the word of wisdom kids.

Tuesday was soooo sick! We were contacting forever in the middle of Solingen before an appointment and the last guy I talked to is named Kevin. He is 24 and a german. All I did was showed him the Book of Mormon and explained it. He said he has a ton of family that is religious but he doesn’t know if any church is true so I just sliced right into his DM’s with some Joseph Smith and after that his questions were “can I take the Book and when do you guys have time to meet?” #goteeemmmmm

We were able to meet with him yesterday and address his concerns because he dabbled into some of that anti Mormon crap but we answered everything and he was like shocked. Had the dopest 1st lesson ever and he absolutely loves that we have modern day prophets and revelation. He was eating it up! Prayed at the end of the lesson as well and the spirit was just so strong. The first time he has ever prayed in front of people. At the end of the lesson he just slips in “oh I also read about your word of wisdom, and don’t worry I have never drank or smoked and I don’t like coffee.” We were pumped! It’s been crazy to see the Lord’s Hand in the work this week. Pray for Kevin!

Week 33- "Weekly txt message"

Schande. Another week huh

Haha it was a long cold one this week! 

Friday we had a way fun split with the zone leaders and me and Elder Fawcett were able to teach the investigator that I taught last time. She’s from China and way funny haha. Had a really fun time with those guys up in Düsseldorf.

Saturday they had a baptism so we went to that and then we had dinner at the Benten’s house! We like never get fed up here so that was way nice. They are about as German as it gets so we always mess around with them a little bit.

Sunday Mathilde showed up to church! She even bore her testimony sogar!!! I and Elder Felix saw her get up and we were like oh baby here it comes. She just was up there preaching about charity. Then the entire ward was just firing testimonies off after that. She really likes the ward and has been able to make some friends, she just needs to keep meeting with us now which has been hard for her. Pray for Mathilde!

Monday sucked not going to lie. 2 lessons fell out and we just knocked doors forever. Idk how many times we got yelled at that night but ya know, we just out here trying to help these people. 

Tuesday we had a fun lesson with our man Ricardo. We taught him the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a library because he loves pretty far away. Straight up in the middle of the lesson a girl walks up to him and is like “hey do you want my number?” He’s like “ uhhh I already have a girlfriend have a nice day.” And from that point, I couldn’t recover hahahaha I was so shook! Took me a solid 5 minutes to take in what had happened, he was just laughing at me so hard. He likes the church but he just doesn’t feel ready yet. Pray for our man Ricardo!

Zone conference was yesterday and President Boyer was just going beast mode about The Book of Mormon. One of my favorite zoco’s yet. The BOM has so much power, and we unlock that power when we truly have a desire to study and learn from it. I have seen it literally change peoples attitudes the second they read a verse. We just need more people to be willing to read it out here. I can testify of its truthfulness and power. It’s the truest book we have on the earth, so why not soak it in? 

Read, study, ponder and pray about the Book of Mormon this week. You will see and feel it impacts your life. I can promise you that.

Sorry for the lame letter this week. Thanks for the cards and packages this week, they were needed! Shout out to uncle Jared for the package as well as the Alpine Cove Ward for the DOPE V Day box.

Go make a sacrifice for someone else this week. We are all children of God, we are here to lift and support each other.
