Week 24- “You sold my dead bird to a blind kid!?” -Dumb&Dummer

What a week up here in the Solingen Germanysssssss! We had some funny stories this week. Wish I had time to share them all.

Last Friday we went to a less actives house and he held a knife to my throat and then his 25 year old daughter walked out of her room wearing a shirt with no bra. I was ready to go home at that point hahaha! You just can’t make this stuff up😂😂😂
Missions are something else

Saturday we were just getting roasted on the streets all day. So we hopped on a bus to hit up a different Fuß and on that bus some drunk guy was explaining to me how God is wayyy to big of an idea but Jesus Christ has all of these little spirits he works with so everything will be alright in the end..... after that we split contacted the mall area and the second guy I stopped went off on me how I’m not actually an American and how everything actually originated from Italy. It was bad hahaha. Basically just sat and yelled at each other for 20 minutes in the middle of the street and my companion thought I was teaching him the first two lessons. Ahhh man. Good times

Christmas Eve we were with the Benton’s with a new concert in the ward, our one and only homie Sven. Christmas Day we went to Family Pauly and ate boiled rabbit and Knödel hahaha. Their son just looks at me and says “you get to eat the bunny’s @$$” and he legit gave me some rabbit butt with two balls hanging from it. Yummmyyyyyy Christmas lunch. Mmmmmmmmm
Definitely a special opportunity to be on a mission for the holidays but at the same time I just got transferred to a new area so I just spent Christmas with complete strangers but we make the most out of it! I love Elder Winsborrow and we just have a good time and work hard! We found a ton of good people this week that we are excited for. This gospel seriously has me shook sometimes with how awesome it is. I have felt the Savior’s love for me and the people around me this week more than I ever have before. Hopefully all of you can feel that same love, especially during this time of the year:)

Yesterday we had a dankkkkk district meeting with our little flock of 4 Elders!! I got to ride the famous Schwaber Bahn in Wuppertal. The trains all travel over the wupp river and it feels like a roller coaster ride. As a district we talked a ton about Fear and Faith and how that applies to us as missionaries and also just members of the church and people in general. It got me super stoked for this upcoming year. Also known as “the dark year” for me. Going from January 1-December 31 all spent on the mission but I’m stoked for it. Should be bumpin🎵 and a wet one! #Taufen🌊
Also got roasted by a guy because we knocked on his door, and he lives in a private home so we are not allowed to do that he says...... germans man.... they’re a dream to work with. But the next door we knocked we got let in and gave the entire first lesson and she committed to read the Book of Mormon. Trial of faith kids ✊🏼

Talking to my fam was awesome! Love you guys! Also thanks to everyone who sent letters and packages this week. #BlessingsOnBlessings

Happy holidays peeps🦈

Week 23- "Dear John😅"

Well shoot!
I’ve been transferred from Hanau up to Solingen, the city of Knives!! Seriously such a hard goodbye with the Hanau ward. I love those people so much. It’s like a family down there. After our last dinner appointment, Sunday night my man, Jason, in the ward just gave me a hug and was like, “I’m going to miss you.” Haha, it made me so sad. I can’t wait to go back and visit those people after my mission. Also, saying bye to my brother, Elder Bringhurst, was the hardest thing ever. It felt like leaving a brother. He’s going to kill it in Hanau though. They have some exciting things ahead of them #HH🏀

Also, my MTC sisters went home..... so crazy. The mission has some major shoes to fill with them leaving. They went beast mode out here.

I went from an 8 person district with sisters and a bunch of missionaries around me and being close to Frankfurt and now I am in a 4 Elder district in the middle of nowhere. But we still are grinding! My new comp, Elder Winsborrow, is a cool guy and way good missionary. He hasn’t been out too much longer than me so we are just having a good time.

From the sounds of it, we have a lot of less actives in the ward due to some ward drama and a lot of other things. I haven’t met the ward yet but it sounds like we are going to have to do some WORK up in here. It’ll be an uphill climb for sure but welcome to Germany. The last few days we have found a lot of potentials that hopefully pan out and we have to meet with some less actives that are awesome.

On my first night here, we knocked into two apartments that were completely hot boxed with weed hahahaha! But one of them said to come by again on Saturday so that’ll be fun. We meet the craziest people out here sometimes, I can’t even begin to describe them hahaha!

These past two weeks, I have been studying how to recognize the spirit and also reading a ton of scriptures that have promises, blessings, warnings etc. that the spirit gives us. It has been really cool to study and read about how God works with us through the spirit. (There’s a ton of scriptures in PMG chapter 4 in the activity box) haha I know probably nobody is going to go do that but that’s where you can find them 😂

I can’t wait to talk to my Fam on Christmas!! Can’t believe I’ve already been out 6 months. Time is flying!!

Merry Christmas ya filthy animals. Do something special for someone this week.

Mosiah 5:2-5
"And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.
And we, ourselves, also, through the infinite goodness of God, and the manifestations of his Spirit, have great views of that which is to come; and were it expedient, we could prophesy of all things.
And it is the faith which we have had on the things which our king has spoken unto us that has brought us to this great knowledge, whereby we do rejoice with such exceedingly great joy.And we are willing to enter into a covenant with our God to do his will, and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he shall command us, all the remainder of our days, that we may not bring upon ourselves a never-ending torment, as has been spoken by the angel, that we may not drink out of the cup of the wrath of God."
John 14:26-27
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Week 22- “Meine Gang meine ganngggg” -Cro

Happy Thursday from the Hanau crib🏡

This is the last week of this transfer! I can’t believe I’ve been in Hanau for 4 transfers now. Also the sisters that i was in the MTC with leave next week so that #sucks. They freaking did some work out here. It’ll be funny to see and get to know all the sisters that replace them. Hopefully they can hold down the fort.

Sunday it pounded snow and right when I got in the car for a ride to church my suit pants ripped pretty good so it was a fun day🤹🏻‍♂️ had dinner at the Francks house and he made the best piece of duck ever. We love that family they are hilarious.

Monday me and my man Doctor Elder Guymon had a split here in Hanau and did service at the Hanau Tafel with our boy Peter aka Capt. Scott. Later that evening we ran into one of the sisters old investigators who was psyched out on drugs and we tried to have a lesson with her which eventually lead to the security guards escorting us out because she was going nuts! Gotta love it.

Zone Conference was Tuesday and every companionship got a brand new Samsung smartphone. It’s seriously going to make the work so much more efficient here because everyone communicates with “Whatsapp” or Facebook messenger so now we have all of those on our phone and we have data so that we don’t have to be on WiFi to receive them! The STL’s in Frankfurt had a really cool lesson with a story about an investigator and it basically was exactly what happened with us and Kevin a few months ago so me and Elder Bringhurst were just like freak we need to find a way to get in contact with this guy. If you remember he was on baptismal date and making really good progress and even stopped smoking and drinking and then he blocked our number and we haven’t been able to communicate or meet with him the past two months. We ended up finding him on what’s app last night and shot him a message and we woke up this morning to a message from him saying he wants to talk with us again! We were going insane. Don’t want to jump the gun on anything here but we really hope Kevin comes back!!

Something else way cool that happened was that President Boyer left Zone conference early because his daughter had a performance at the school. He basically said to us that he loves us but no matter what his family is going to come first. It was a huge testimony builder for me to see him just drop everything and go support his daughter.

We get transfer calls on Saturday so I could possibly be transferred by the time I write again next week. But I wouldn’t mind spending a 5th transfer in Hanau, I think this place is ready to see some miracles for this upcoming year. Plus I love my boy Elder Bringhurst✊🏼

This week has been one of the funnest week’s on my mission. Me and Elder Bringhurst didn’t really see any success but we just hit the pavement way hard and it was pouring rain almost every day but somehow we found a way to enjoy the grind this week more than usual. I love being a missionary out here so much. I can’t describe the joy that missionary work brings, I’m sure that everyone that has served a mission or is currently serving knows what I’m talking about.
Soak up the words of the Book of Mormon and enjoy this awesome time of the year!

AHH almost forgot. So I found out at zone conference from my man AP Hughes that the guy me and Elder Chamberlain first found/received/taught was baptized last week and is now getting the priesthood next week! Sooo cool the guy is amazing!! I was so happy!

Love you all! Have a good one yooooooo

Week 21- “The way you invest your love, you invest your life.” -M&S

Yo what a week.

First off, shout out to my boy Dakota and his call to the Calgary, Canada mission 🇨🇦

On Saturday, we had our member wake us up and for our workout time and he drove us to the church and we ran around in the freezing cold, dark, muggy German air and shoved invitations to our Christmas party in mailboxes. Definitely a good mission trip memory. Later that evening, we had the Christmas party. The sisters had 2 investigators there and we were like freak nobody that said they were going to come for us showed up but right as the opening prayer was said, a random guy that got our English pass along card this week walks in and then 5 min later our investigator from Afghanistan rolls in! We were stoked out of our minds. The ward was super welcoming and nice to them and it was just a fun evening.

On Sunday, we were running around all 3rd hour showing the #lighttheworld video in all of the classes. The young men’s leader came up to me after church and was like, "Yo, Rothwell! Who’s lookin' to have a snowball fight?" So we had a snowball fight for about 20 minutes with all of the young men, young men’s leaders and 2 members of the bishopric. Hahaha funniest thing I’ve ever been a part of. Germans grow up passing balls with their feet so it was funny to watch them all throw snowballs.

On Monday, we had some morning service at the local Tafel!
After, I had a split with my boy, Elder Neighbor, in Wetterau and taught some way fun lessons to their investigators! We also met with a family from Syria who just brought us in and fed us a bucket of fruit. Then they told/showed us with pictures of their homes in Syria that got bombed and how two of their daughters died in it. Such a crazy experience to sit and talk to people who have just been through the ringer. I honestly don’t know how people go through life not knowing the plan of salvation and the peace that it brings along with everything else in this perfect gospel we have.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had some fun lessons here in Hanau with our two investigators and then we started our English class on Wednesday night and had a few people show up it was sooo sick! Hopefully that class gets rolling and we are able to get a few investigators from it.

We have a street display on Saturday and the ZL’s and my companion and I set a goal to find 2 people prepared for baptism this week at the display so we are praying for some miracles.

That's pretty much it for the week here in the Hanau Crib!

Find a way to serve someone this week with the #lighttheworld calendar that is up! Elder Bringhurst and I have been loving following that thing every day. Serving others truly does bring joy into your life.

We are heading down to Heidelberg for the Christmas market there!
Hopefully will be able to send some pics later today. We will see what we can make happen.
Love y’all

Scripts ‘O da week:

2 Nephi 4:35
"Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine... "

2 Nephi 10:23-24
"Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved."

Alma 37:33-40
"Preach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be meek and lowly in heart; teach them to withstand every temptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Teach them to never be weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly in heart; for such shall find rest to their souls.
O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.
Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever. "

Matthew 22: 37-39
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart , and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind .
This is the first and great commandment .
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. "

Week 20- "When the praises go up, the blessings come down" -Chance The Rapper

Never know how to get these things started so let’s just dive in aye?

I thought Utah was cold, but at least Utah is dry. This week was so wet and windy and bitter cold. It’s crazy. Just like the lovely people here. HA PSYCH! Just joshin with ya.  But for real we did some solid work this week no matter the weather.

We hit an hour train ride up to Fulda on Friday only to find out that the guy we were going to meet lived about 5 hours to the north in a city that sounded the same as Fulda but he had a thick accent. So we got to do some contacting in the rain up there. Let’s goooo!

We had a way sick street display in the pouring rain on Saturday and it took your's truly and my comp Elder Bringhurst 20 minutes to set up this plastic table because we just some dumb 20 year old Americans out here. We love our district though and we all hit it hard and got smoked on the streets but it’s all good. Only blessings and good times out here.

On Saturday, we had a sleep over in Nieder-Wöllstadt with the Elders because stake conference was up there closer to them and we had a way good time hahaha! President and Sister Boyer absolutely killed it in the stake conference and were just spitting fire at the stake about missionary work and how the members should be united with the missionaries. President and his wife are so awesome and their little family is hilarious. Love those people.
We met with some dope investigators on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday night, the Johnsons had us over for thanksgiving and it was incredible. Half German half American family and they made us some bomb duck, pumpkin pie, and all that jazz.

Yesterday, we had a street display here in Hanau and then helped the ward set up for our huge ward Christmas party on Saturday. It should be huge and we have invited so many people to it so we are way excited to see who actually shows up. We got a possibility of 15+ random people showing up to this Shabang so we pumped over here to see what happens! Pray for us.

On a more spiritual side, we have the new Christmas Videos for #LightTheWorld or #DerWeltEinLicht here in Germany and there is a new overall video as well as a video for every day of December to show examples of how we can serve like Christ served. I’d invite all of you to go and watch those and do something for someone else on every day this Christmas season. Me and Elder Bringhurst will be doing it and can only promise blessings to anyone else who puts in an effort. The more we serve others and forget about ourselves is when we more fully understand how and why Jesus served in the way that he did. I love this gospel and the special opportunity to be on a mission during the holidays.
Just out here MISSION TRIPPIN! 🚣🏻‍♀️🎣
Love you all heaps!

CIAO!!! (Chow)

Oh also if anyone wants a Christmas card from me and Elder Bringhurst you’re going to have to email me your address before next Wednesday so we can get our cards we made shipped out ASAP 🎄 ☃️📬
Love the #HanauHoopers🏀

SCRIPTS this week:

Matthew 18:3-5
"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children , ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child , the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."

Alma 7 (straight 🔥 chapter)
"Christ will be born of Mary—He will loose the bands of death and bear the sins of His people—Those who repent, are baptized, and keep the commandments will have eternal life—Filthiness cannot inherit the kingdom of God—Humility, faith, hope, and charity are required." (chapter heading)
